DISSEMINATION OF IMPROVED
STOVES IN GULU AND AMURU DISTRICTS
SEOFS, with the support of Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO), undertook a stove dissemination program, targeting Farmer
Field Schools (FFS) in the district of Kitgum and Pader. Representatives
from 56 FFS were trained in skill of constructing and disseminating
improved mud rocket stoves. In turn, these trainees disseminated
stoves in their respective FFS. Interestingly, due to the rising
popularity, even some of the non-members of the FFS demanded
and obtained the stove, hence multiplier or spill over effect.
Having successfully disseminated stoves in the 56 FFS of Kitgum
and Pader, SEOFS, with the support of FAO, is now implementing
another project using the same approach to disseminate stoves
in Gulu and Amuru district. This involves training of representatives
from 80 FFS in construction of improved Energy saving Rocket
Lorena stoves and monitoring and quality control of the stoves
constructed in the homes FFS members.
The following activities are currently being done
1. Mobilization stakeholders, including district leaders, Farmer
Field School Facilitators, FAO implementing Partners, FAO staff
of Gulu/Amuru Office for a sensitization workshop
2. Sensitization workshop for district leaders and stakeholders
3. Selection of 5 members per FFS who are to act as TOTs and
these are to train the rest of the FFS members such that all
the FFS members not only acquire the skills of stove construction
but also the stove
4. Practical training of the selected TOTs to become artisans
5. Monitoring and quality control of the secondary training
(by the TOTs) and stove construction in the homes of the FFS
members
