KIBOGA PROJECT
TRAINING OF YOUTHS IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND DISSEMINATION
OF ENERGY SAVING MUD ROCKET STOVES INWATTUBA SUB-COUNTY, KIBOGA
DISTRICT
In April 2008, Sustainable Energy and Organic
Farming Systems (SEOFS) was contracted by Christian Children
Fund (CCF-Uganda ) to train about 100 youths in the construction
and dissemination of improved mud rocket Lorena stoves in five
parishes of Wattuba Sub-county (Including, Masodde, Kasambya,
Lwansama, Nakitembe and Nabulembeko) in Kiboga district.
The objectives of this training included:
i. To create awareness about improved energy saving stoves as
one of the methods of energy conservation.
ii. To equip about 100 youths with the skills of constructing
the Household Mud Rocket Lorena energy saving stoves.
iii. To build capacity of energy promoters in the rural communities.
iv. To build a hierarchy of social-technicians, trainers and
small entrepreneurs with sufficient skills to avail energy saving
stoves to the community.
The Youths were therefore trained in the following skills:
a) Mobilizing and sensitizing the community about the Energy
Saving Rocket Lorena Technology.
b) Collection and Preparation of stove construction materials
c) Proper Construction of the stove
d) Proper finishing of the stove in order to attract market
for the stoves.
e) Quality control and marketing of the stoves.
f) Elementary Business skills; including Entrepreneurship, Business
planning, Business management, Marketing and Salesmanship among
others.
All these objectives have been successfully achieved owing
to the combined effort of the Community members, Trainers, Local
community leaders, CCF Staff-Masodde Project and the cooperation
of the Youth trainees as well as the support of the supervisors.
A total of 93 out of 100 Youths were fully equipped wit the
skills of constructing the Rocket Lorena stoves and over 1000
stoves have been built as shown in the table below.
